Motion Comparison - JVC NZ7 vs Epson LS12000

JVC RS2100 (NZ7) Left / Epson LS12000 Right. Looks like I filmed this on a potato, but my iPhone 13 Pro struggles in low light conditions trying to film at 60FPS. This is a very dark scene and so it's just the way it is. The source is Disney app on Apple 4K TV in HDR. Epson LS12000 120Hz vs 60Hz display output

There was a question raised on avsforum if the LS12000 projector was true 120Hz output capable, and not just 120Hz input (but only 60Hz output). This slow motion 240Hz motion capture on my iPhone 13 Pro strives to answer that question. Yes. The Epson LS12000 has 120Hz output. Consider that while I'm recording at 240FPS slow motion, you are watching it back on youtube, at 24FPS, or 30FPS, or eve...

I have a 16x9 that is a 57 degree viewing angle. I watch as masked 2.40 scope for 95% of the time but full screen is great for VAR movies or if want to watch 1.85:1 Jurassic Park on the full screen. And if watching a TV show I can make it any size in between. Having bars on all 4 sides for the fewer times I do a middle ground size doesn't bother me. Wish I had more projection distance to be able to be in the low 60's viewing angle.
Tried to watch this on replay at gym but gave up. You need to level match before you start.Ryan was a whisper and Jonathan was loud in headphones. Didn't matter because RUclips shoved an ad every 3 minutes and they were 20 minute Audio Advice tutorials that you cant skip when you're running. Sad to have to bail. You guys are great together but replay is useless if you cant skip ads
@@mattgiunt thank you for the candid feedback Matt. We’ve got to figure something else out about the level match. It impossible with just two of us to tell where our volume is relative to the other, that’s why we started the last couple podcasts asking for that feedback. We’ll try to look into that more!
Jonathan, a little pronunciation correction, durometer is pronounced dur-ah-meter. Some good discussion as always!
@@t-rex1480 I’ll always be happy to take good solid correction. Thanks!
For the shed, I would do Hardieboard cement siding, then a layer of homasote board under your siding or sheathing Then inside do staggered studs on a 2x6 bottom plate. Use Rockwool insulation, then a layer of OSB, then 2 layers of drywall with green glue.
Bummed I missed the first half of the live broadcast 3:20 Totally get it. Out of sync sleep schedules is bonafide annoying if you rely on each other to get things done. 10:00 A LOT of how big I like the screen vs seating distance is actually content dependent. Some movies are just way to frentic in their framing and I need to back it off. Others are just fine. And as Ryan mentioned, if it's too big, I just zoom it down. Worse case scenario, it gets brighter and just a tiny less immersive. 14:00 FOV recommendations are some of the worst standards out there. It's waaaaaay to preference/content dependent. It's not like reference levels where we've got a pretty good idea of what's physically too loud for the majority of the population. 28:00 I need to do a part 2 on that thing some day on the channel. 30:00 Yeah, we call that the 'enjoy your apartment futon' demoting process.
On the topic of not being impressed, being told what I need to fix helped me improve my theater. I might be unconsciously aware. It's embarrassing to show off what I think is good and necessarily isn't, but you gave me great feedback last time. I still need acoustic treatment though. Wish I could just buy it.
15x19 shed is huge! I'd put in air conditioning. 😂
When THX is talking about angles years ago, we're those for 4:3 or CinemaScope screens?
@@Saturn2888 that’s in the real of HDTV. So 16x9
I wish I had more width on my screen only for movies, not games or anything else. 16:9 is plenty big, but CinemaScope feels small depending on the movie
Even on my 97" OLED, shakey cam in a Bourne Clip made everyone sick. It feels like VR motion sickness, I agree.
Could you discuss compromised theater setups? Specifically seating close to side and rear walls, low ceiling height, dealing with an open side wall, etc. Loving the shorter format and appreciate the in-depth info as always
Seems strange that Ryan was showing us his room in the early stages when it was nothing but OSB, but now he seems reluctant to show it until it is finished.
@@stephenphillips1660 I was over there this week. It’s very nearly done. I think he just wants it fully buttoned up. It is extraordinary!
I miss those THX logos and the Dolby logos it got you Hyped before the movie started. Ah I miss those days
45-50deg is the sweet spot for most peoples 16:9 screens, enthusiasts may want more. installers tend to go slightly smaller because if people play video games or watch lots of sports, then going 60-deg can get to be a bit much/motion sickness.
One of the best episodes you guys ever did was having chirpie walk through his home theater build. It is like an AVS Forum build thread with commentary. It would be interesting to have other folks on to walk through their builds.
Are both your Mic gains at 18db in the windows driver settings? There are atleast a 6db difference when we hear from you both on the podcast. Ryan are you going to either record a video in the new cinema or post some photos? Would be nice to see.
EDIT: got better after the adjustment but Ryan is still too "hot" ;D ha ha
My wife sleeps "early" for us: 11p. My middle kids wakes up between 5:30-6:30a, so that's when she wakes up now.
Not sure if you answered my superchat but..could you do an episode going in depth on manual audio calibration?
@@HappyBullets Ryan is streaming this right now and so I don’t even see the texts during the stream at this time. We need to figure that out. So I’m sorry I missed your super chat. Yes we (or I solo) could do an episode on manual EQ. Thanks for the idea.
@@jvonengelnJonathan do you know anything about the Etymotic ER4SR to help with manual calibration? They are in-ear monitors that I once heard (some years ago) Anthony Grimani mentioned he uses them to help him manually EQ the speakers, like after doing acoustic treatment and tweak things with REW, that he would go back and forth with them and the speakers until the speakers sounded fairly similar to the ER4SR. They are not cheap, but I’m curious about checking them out.
What Facebook group are you guys streaming to?

My kids and I also loved the how to train your dragons, as well as the show. I was pleasantly surprised by the show also. Hey guys, the M&K Dominus is a 15" Push/pull config similar to Perlisten D215S. Heck the Perlisten guys use to work for M&K when they were in the USA. The problem lately is that M&K is out of Europe now and does not have a heavy presence online or dealers in the US anymore. SO better question then would you go for a D212S or JTR RS1?

Being an avid 2 channel stereo music lover and making then making the jump to a multi-channel setup, I immediately became aware of how the room sounded different. Didn't know what it was at first, but coming from an audio black background, there was no way I was prepared to put up with it! Even after auditioning 3 separate AVR's, the same ambient sound of the room was still present! That told me the unwanted faint background signal noise I had been experiencing (poor description) had nothing to do with the actual units. Therefore, my attention changed to the cables. And even then It was only on the third occasion after I finally purchased shielded cables that the noise floor within my small room finally came down to satisfactory levels. Cables often act as antennas for attracting RF, and the longer the cable, the better the antenna. Probably explains why when I used to disconnect my heights and surrounds within 10 minutes, the faint background signal noise (RF/EMI) within my small room used to disappear/dissipate. The more cables I shield, the quieter my room becomes, and the better the shielding, the more the chance the cables are likely to disappear. If one has the same sensitivities and is looking to address this matter, but is also hoping to notice (hear) the incremental differences, I would suggest starting with analogue cables before moving on to digital and power cables. Trying to achieve a totally silent room sadly has turned into obsession for me. However, the results speak for themselves. There are times when pressing pause (or mute), my small room has now become so quiet that I'm actually unable to differentiate whether the system is on or if it's actually switched off. Of course, audiophile equipment helps, but in reality, for one to have a totally silent room. Cables, especially cables that happen have long runs has to be shielded. IMO of course When friends or guests come over, I used to show them how loud the system goes. Now I prefer to press mute and show them how my quiet it goes None of them gets it, of course 😂
@@totalplonker824 I’ve had great luck in grounding my equipment together - either using the built in grounding screws on some equipment or simply scratching of a little paint and screwing a grounding wire into a chassis screw. I ground 8 of my source and amplifier chassis together and then ground that to the ground screw on my two electrical outlets and I too cannot tell when my system is on (except for projector fans) and my cables are inexpensive, and DIY.
Thanks for the reply, but nothing to do with the grounding. What I'm referring to is a little less obvious! Unlike a large open airy dedicated theatre room, my setup happens to be in a very small 13 x 11.5 ft living room. The environment in itself is likely to sound different. Lots of space for the EMI/RF interference to dissipate. The smaller the environment, the more the interference is likely to make itself more known. The thing is, some people don't pick up on the RF/EMI interference, and that's ok and there are some people who do pick up on it, and yet it doesn't bother them, and that's ok too, but I can assure you there's a reason why I changed all of my analogue cables and most of my digital multiple times. In fact, the last group of cables I changed were my HDMI's (chord epic AOC's) and even with the HDMI's I was able to noticed how the room sounded slightly quieter yet again. Of course, these subtle differences is only likely to become apparent if all the analogue cables are shielded first! No good addressing the quietest when one hasn't addressed the noisiest! Just like the saying goes.. "You're only as good as your weakest link"
